I remember exactly where I was the first time I read this play - I was riding on a bus in Provo. My wife had recently given birth to our first child. We were in the midst of the COVID-19 global pandemic. I was in a dead-end job. We were living in my in-laws’ basement. And I felt like my entire life had been upended. This beautifully subtle play spoke to my sentimental soul. I loved these characters and the way this story gradually let me in on the secrets of their lives. And its messages of change and community have stuck with me ever since.
I had the opportunity to direct this show amidst a lot of change, and the cyclical nature of life became my focus in this production. One phase of life ending and another starting again - and how to remain hopeful for what's yet to come.
